When a motor yacht is the right choice
The usual reason people choose a motor yacht in Greece is time. A week is not long, the islands are further apart than they look on a map, and a sailing yacht spends a good part of each day getting from one anchorage to the next. Under engine the same passage is shorter, which leaves more of the day for swimming, lunch ashore and the places you actually came to see.
The second reason is comfort at anchor and under way. A motor yacht sits level, has a wide aft deck free of rigging, and usually carries a flybridge with shade and seating above the main deck. For guests who are not sailors, and for groups travelling with children or older relatives, that changes the character of the week.
What you give up is the sailing itself. If the point of the trip is to be under canvas, a monohull or a catamaran is the better answer.
How the fleet is made up
The motor yachts we charter run from sport cruisers in the low teens of metres up to flybridge yachts of over twenty metres, from builders including Ferretti, Sunseeker, Princess, Galeon, Leopard, Cranchi and Posillipo. The smaller boats take a group out for the day with a skipper. The larger ones are crewed, with cabins and a captain, and a few of those are also offered by the cabin.
Guest numbers vary widely across the fleet, so the yacht that suits eight people for a day is rarely the one that suits twenty for a week. Tell us the group size and the dates and we will narrow it down rather than send a catalogue.
Fuel, and why it is quoted separately
Fuel is the one cost that a motor yacht charter cannot fix in advance, because it depends entirely on how far you go and how fast. A week spent between two neighbouring islands and a week crossing the Aegean are not the same trip. It is quoted on consumption so that you are not charged for distance you did not cover.
Where these yachts go
The range of a motor yacht opens up itineraries that are tight under sail. From Athens the Saronic Gulf is comfortable in a long weekend, and the Cyclades come within reach of a week without the days becoming deliveries. The Ionian suits calmer cruising, and the Dodecanese and Sporades both work well when the distances are covered under engine.
