Overview
Yacht Charter Destinations in Greece
Six cruising regions, each with its own winds, distances and character. Start from the one that fits your trip.
Overview
Choose the region, then the yacht
Greece offers more than 6,000 islands and islets, and the region you choose shapes the whole holiday. Distances, wind, shelter and the character of the harbours change considerably from one area to the next.
Pick the cruising region first and the yacht second. For an overview of the country as a whole, start with sailing the Greek islands, or search the fleet by dates if you already know when you are coming. We then come back with the vessels that are actually available for your dates in that area.
What differs by region
- Distance between islands
- Prevailing wind and shelter
- How busy the harbours get
- Suitability for first time charters
- Depth and type of anchorages
- Access from the nearest airport
Choosing
How to pick a region
A few honest rules of thumb.
First time chartering
The Ionian and the Saronic have shorter passages and more shelter.
Sailing in July or August
The meltemi is strongest in the Cyclades, so plan reserve days.
A week or less
The Saronic keeps travel time low and swimming time high.
Two weeks
The Cyclades or the Dodecanese open up properly with more days.
Families with children
Calm water and short legs matter more than famous names.
Experienced sailors
The Cyclades reward good planning and an early start.
Quiet anchorages
The Sporades and the smaller Dodecanese islands stay calmer.

Tell us your dates and group and we will suggest the region honestly.
