Why choose a motor yacht
Speed is the main advantage. A planing motor yacht can cruise at 20 knots or more, so you can visit several islands in a day, go further on a short charter, or return to base for dinner after a day trip. Motor yachts also offer large sun decks, flybridges and generous interior space.
Fuel and running costs
Fuel is the biggest variable cost on power yacht charters in Greece. It is usually charged separately, either through an advance provisioning allowance on crewed charters or based on engine hours. Consumption depends heavily on the yacht and the speed, so ask for an estimate for your planned route. Cruising at a slower speed reduces fuel use considerably.
Crew and licences
Most motor yachts in Greece are chartered with a captain, and larger yachts with a full crew. Smaller motor boats may be available bareboat for holders of a suitable motor boat licence. Day cruises are always skippered.

Booking a power yacht charter in Greece with Astra Yachting follows the same steps every time. You send your preferred dates, the number of guests, the type of charter you want (bareboat, skippered or crewed) and any must-see stops. We check live availability with the yacht owners and charter fleets we work with, and come back with the yachts that are actually free for your dates, their exact specifications and a written quotation.
Once you choose a yacht, you receive the charter agreement and the payment schedule. The booking is confirmed when the agreement is signed and the first payment is received, as set out in our Booking Terms & Conditions. Before departure we collect the crew list required by the Greek port authorities, any sailing licences for bareboat charters, and your provisioning or transfer requests.

What is included and what is extra
Every quotation for a power yacht charter in Greece lists what the charter fee covers, so there are no surprises. As a rule, the fee covers the use of the yacht for the agreed period, its standard equipment and the yacht's insurance. On skippered and crewed charters it also covers the skipper or crew wages.
Items that are usually charged separately include fuel, marina and harbour fees, the final cleaning, optional extras such as a paddleboard, a gennaker or an outboard for the tender, the skipper's or crew's food on board, and a security deposit or damage-waiver option on bareboat charters. On crewed motor yachts, running costs such as fuel, food and drinks are often paid through an advance provisioning allowance that is reconciled at the end of the trip. The exact list depends on the yacht, which is why we confirm it in writing before you book.

When a motor yacht is the right choice
The usual reason people choose a motor yacht in Greece is time. A week is not long, the islands are further apart than they look on a map, and a sailing yacht spends a good part of each day getting from one anchorage to the next. Under engine the same passage is shorter, which leaves more of the day for swimming, lunch ashore and the places you actually came to see.
The second reason is comfort at anchor and under way. A motor yacht sits level, has a wide aft deck free of rigging, and usually carries a flybridge with shade and seating above the main deck. For guests who are not sailors, and for groups travelling with children or older relatives, that changes the character of the week.
What you give up is the sailing itself. If the point of the trip is to be under canvas, a monohull or a catamaran is the better answer.
How the fleet is made up
The motor yachts we charter run from sport cruisers in the low teens of metres up to flybridge yachts of over twenty metres, from builders including Ferretti, Sunseeker, Princess, Galeon, Leopard, Cranchi and Posillipo. The smaller boats take a group out for the day with a skipper. The larger ones are crewed, with cabins and a captain, and a few of those are also offered by the cabin.
Guest numbers vary widely across the fleet, so the yacht that suits eight people for a day is rarely the one that suits twenty for a week. Tell us the group size and the dates and we will narrow it down rather than send a catalogue.
Fuel, and why it is quoted separately
Fuel is the one cost that a motor yacht charter cannot fix in advance, because it depends entirely on how far you go and how fast. A week spent between two neighbouring islands and a week crossing the Aegean are not the same trip. It is quoted on consumption so that you are not charged for distance you did not cover.

The range of a motor yacht opens up itineraries that are tight under sail. From Athens the Saronic Gulf is comfortable in a long weekend, and the Cyclades come within reach of a week without the days becoming deliveries.
