Overview

Distance, shade and a fixed schedule

A power yacht charter trades sail for engine. You leave when you decide to leave, you arrive when you said you would, and an afternoon of no wind changes nothing about the plan.

That suits two kinds of trip in particular – island hopping where the distances are long and the days are few, and groups who want the deck space and the shade of a flybridge rather than the experience of sailing itself.

Good to know

What a power yacht changes

The practical differences compared with a sailing yacht of the same length.

01

Pace

Passages are made under engine, so a long hop between islands takes hours rather than a day.

02

Planning

Your route is set by distance and fuel rather than by the forecast.

03

Meltemi

The summer wind in the Aegean is a factor for any yacht, but it shapes a motor yacht's day less than a sailing one.

04

Flybridge

An upper helm and seating area that a sailing yacht of the same length does not have.

05

Deck

A wide aft deck and swim platform, with no boom or sheets crossing it.

06

Motion

The yacht stays upright under way, which suits guests who are new to boats.

07

Running cost

Fuel is the main variable and is charged on consumption, so it is quoted separately.

08

Crew

The motor yachts in the fleet are chartered with a skipper or a full crew, not bareboat.

Charter formats

Ways to charter a power yacht

Three levels of service, depending on the yacht.

01

Skippered

A professional skipper handles navigation, berthing and the route. You choose where the day goes.

02

Crewed

Captain and crew on board, with service and catering arranged before you sail.

03

Cabin charter

A single cabin on a shared yacht, with set departure dates.

04

Not bareboat

The motor yachts in this fleet come with a skipper or crew. For bareboat, see the bareboat charters page.

More about power yacht charters

When a motor yacht is the right choice

The usual reason people choose a motor yacht in Greece is time. A week is not long, the islands are further apart than they look on a map, and a sailing yacht spends a good part of each day getting from one anchorage to the next. Under engine the same passage is shorter, which leaves more of the day for swimming, lunch ashore and the places you actually came to see.

The second reason is comfort at anchor and under way. A motor yacht sits level, has a wide aft deck free of rigging, and usually carries a flybridge with shade and seating above the main deck. For guests who are not sailors, and for groups travelling with children or older relatives, that changes the character of the week.

What you give up is the sailing itself. If the point of the trip is to be under canvas, a monohull or a catamaran is the better answer.

How the fleet is made up

The motor yachts we charter run from sport cruisers in the low teens of metres up to flybridge yachts of over twenty metres, from builders including Ferretti, Sunseeker, Princess, Galeon, Leopard, Cranchi and Posillipo. The smaller boats take a group out for the day with a skipper. The larger ones are crewed, with cabins and a captain, and a few of those are also offered by the cabin.

Guest numbers vary widely across the fleet, so the yacht that suits eight people for a day is rarely the one that suits twenty for a week. Tell us the group size and the dates and we will narrow it down rather than send a catalogue.

Fuel, and why it is quoted separately

Fuel is the one cost that a motor yacht charter cannot fix in advance, because it depends entirely on how far you go and how fast. A week spent between two neighbouring islands and a week crossing the Aegean are not the same trip. It is quoted on consumption so that you are not charged for distance you did not cover.

Where these yachts go

The range of a motor yacht opens up itineraries that are tight under sail. From Athens the Saronic Gulf is comfortable in a long weekend, and the Cyclades come within reach of a week without the days becoming deliveries. The Ionian suits calmer cruising, and the Dodecanese and Sporades both work well when the distances are covered under engine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a licence to charter a power yacht?

Not for the yachts on this page. They are chartered with a skipper or a full crew, so no licence is required from you.

Is fuel included in the price?

No. Fuel is charged on consumption and quoted separately, because it depends on the distance and speed of your particular itinerary.

How many guests can a power yacht take?

It varies across the fleet. Each yacht's page lists its own guest capacity and number of cabins, and those figures come from the vessel's documentation.

What is the difference between skippered and crewed?

A skipper runs the yacht. A crew adds service and catering on board. Which one applies depends on the yacht – see skippered charters and crewed charters.

Can I charter a power yacht for a single day?

Several of the smaller motor yachts are offered for day charters with a skipper. Send your dates and we will confirm which are available.

Are power yachts affected by the meltemi?

Every yacht in the Aegean is affected by strong summer wind. A motor yacht is less dependent on it for progress, but the skipper still plans the route around the forecast.
