Yacht Charter Santorini
Private caldera cruises past the volcano and the hot springs, and sunsets from the water below Oia.
Overview
Discover Santorini by yacht
A yacht charter Santorini day or week shows you the caldera from the water, the view most visitors never see. Santorini is built around a flooded volcanic caldera, and the best way to see its cliffs is from the water. Most visitors choose a private day or sunset cruise with a skipper, which is also the most common form of boat rental in Santorini.
Santorini can also be part of a longer route through the Cyclades, combined with Ios, Folegandros or Anafi. The Cyclades are exposed to the summer meltemi, so multi-day routes here are usually skippered or crewed.

Yacht charter Santorini: caldera, volcano and the southern Cyclades

The caldera from the sea
Santorini's caldera is the flooded crater left by a huge volcanic eruption in the Late Bronze Age. The cliffs rise sharply from deep water, with the villages of Fira, Imerovigli and Oia along the rim. In the middle lie the volcanic islets of Nea Kameni and Palea Kameni, and to the west the small island of Thirassia.
Because the caldera is very deep, anchoring is limited to a few spots, and most private day cruises follow a well-tried route: the volcano at Nea Kameni, the warm, iron-rich water at the Palea Kameni hot springs, a swim stop near Thirassia or the south coast, and a return in time for the sunset off Oia or the lighthouse at Akrotiri.

Where Santorini charters start
Most boats leave from Vlychada Marina on the south coast. Santorini's airport (JTR) and the ferry port of Athinios are both a short drive away. The beaches on the south coast, such as Red Beach and White Beach, are often visited from the water.
Week-long routes from Santorini
A week-long yacht charter Santorini route usually heads north through the Cyclades: Ios, the Small Cyclades (Koufonisia, Schinoussa, Iraklia), Naxos, Paros and Antiparos, then back south. Some trips go west to Folegandros and Milos instead. Santorini is in the southern Cyclades and exposed to the meltemi in July and August, so routes are planned around the forecast and an experienced skipper is recommended.
Day cruise or week-long charter?
A private day cruise, usually around five hours or a sunset trip, is the easiest way to see the caldera, and the boat comes with a skipper. A week-long charter suits groups who want to combine Santorini with other islands. See yacht charter Paros and Cyclades yacht charter.

How booking works
Booking a yacht charter in Santorini with Astra Yachting follows the same steps every time. You send your preferred dates, the number of guests, the type of charter you want (bareboat, skippered or crewed) and any must-see stops. We check live availability with the yacht owners and charter fleets we work with, and come back with the yachts that are actually free for your dates, their exact specifications and a written quotation.
Once you choose a yacht, you receive the charter agreement and the payment schedule; our Booking Terms & Conditions and charter FAQs set out each step, from the crew list to embarkation day.
On embarkation day you meet the yacht in Santorini (usually Vlychada Marina), go through the check-in and safety briefing, and set off. During the charter you can reach us by phone or WhatsApp on +30 693 918 6245.
What is included and what is extra
Every quotation for a yacht charter in Santorini lists what the charter fee covers, so there are no surprises. As a rule, the fee covers the use of the yacht for the agreed period, its standard equipment and the yacht's insurance. On skippered and crewed charters it also covers the skipper or crew wages.
Fuel, marina fees, the final cleaning, optional extras and the security deposit are usually charged separately. The FAQs explain each item, and your written quotation lists them for the yacht you choose.
We do not publish fixed prices on these pages because rates depend on the yacht, the week of the season and the charter format. Ask for a quotation and you get the real price for your dates.

More about chartering in Santorini
Boat rental in Santorini
Most boat rentals in Santorini are skippered. You choose the boat and the timing, such as a morning, a full day or a sunset cruise, and the skipper handles the route according to the wind. Catamarans are popular for their stable deck and space. RIBs are faster for shorter trips.
Weather
The meltemi blows in July and August and can make some routes uncomfortable. Your skipper will choose the sheltered side of the island. Read what the meltemi is.
Price and availability
Rates depend on the boat, the duration and the season. We confirm the exact yacht, specifications, price and availability in writing after your enquiry. See how much it costs to charter a yacht in Greece.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long is a private caldera cruise?
Day cruises usually last around five hours, and sunset trips are shorter. Exact timings depend on the boat and season.
Can I swim in the hot springs?
Yes. Boats anchor near Palea Kameni and guests swim a short distance to the warm, orange-tinted water. It is warm rather than hot.
Is Santorini windy?
It can be. In July and August the meltemi often blows from the north. Caldera cruises are adjusted to the conditions, and week-long routes are planned with the wind.
How far in advance should I book a yacht charter in Santorini?
For July and August it is best to start looking several months ahead, because the most popular yachts are booked early. Outside peak season there is usually more choice at shorter notice. Send us your dates and we will tell you what is actually available.
Can I have a skipper on a yacht charter in Santorini?
Yes. Most yachts can be chartered with a professional skipper, and larger motor yachts and catamarans can come with a full crew. See skippered yacht charters and crewed yacht charters.
Can I rent a boat in Santorini without a licence?
Yes, if you book it with a skipper. Your skipper handles navigation and you just enjoy the day.
What does a Santorini caldera cruise usually include?
Typical stops are the volcano at Nea Kameni, the hot springs at Palea Kameni, a swim at the south coast beaches and, on a sunset cruise, Oia. The exact route depends on the weather.
Is a sunset cruise worth booking early?
Yes. Sunset is the most requested time in high season, so we recommend sending your date as early as possible.
Can I start a multi-day charter in Santorini?
Yes, subject to yacht availability. Tell us your dates and group size.
What is the best time to go?
Roughly May to October. June and September are often less windy than July and August.
